We are being followed. And Facebook does it!
Facebook monitors every action of its users in order to then use this information, for example, when setting up targeted advertising.
When you view content on all Facebook services (and we remember that Instagram and WhatsApp belong to them), the social network assigns certain interests to you.
Facebook takes into account:
- Likes, saves, comments and followers. This is how people mark topics of interest to themselves, and Facebook knows this.
- Your posts. Social media algorithms analyze texts and images that you add.
- Friend list. For example, if the vast majority of your friends have children, chances are, this topic is close to you.
- Messages. If you and your friends are discussing Asian cuisine in personal correspondence on WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook, then in 5 minutes you will be shown an advertisement for a new cafe.
- Viewing news feed. FB calculates how long it took you to view the publication. Even if you did not click on the post, did not leave comments, the system still counts the time you spent delving into it.
- Pixel Facebook. This is a special code that is installed on the site to track the actions of visitors. Each site has a topic, and when a user goes to it, FB thinks that this topic is interesting to him.
By the way, if suddenly Facebook started showing ads that you are not interested in, you can fix it. Go to the Advertising Preferences page. There, in the "Interests" category, you can remove items for which you do not want to see advertisements.
Have you noticed that you are being watched so openly?
