Meta adds new brand protection tools, including improved product image matching processes.
Meta (Instagram and Facebook) is adding new measures to help brands protect their intellectual property, with updates to its Brand Protection Manager tool that detects infringements and a new Intellectual Property Reporting Center that will track intellectual property infringement reports, making it easier to track.
First things first about Brand Protection Manager. Meta is updating its brand rights tracking tool with new artificial intelligence-based features that provide greater protection for your products.
As Meta explained:
"The new version [Brand Rights Manager] uses our latest artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities to find better matches based on brands' previous use of the tool."
The system, which allows you to upload reference images of your products that Meta's system can then use to detect duplicates, will now provide more streamlined detection elements, including saved search results and broader search parameters, simplifying the process.
Meta is also expanding the reference image limit from 50 to 200 images, which will allow for a wider range of options for cross-checking.
Meta is also expanding its Rights Manager platform to provide more extensive blocking of infringing content as well as tagging of image owners, giving rights holders more control over their content.
"The new Intellectual Property (IP) Reporting Center improves the reporting process through [IP Meta's] forms by storing relevant account information and keeping reporting history in one place. Reporters need to log into their Facebook, Instagram or Business Manager account to access the IP Reporting Center. Multiple users logged in with the same Business Manager account will be able to see reporting history for the entire business."

Finally, Meta is also adding a new Business Protection section to its Meta for Business website, which will provide notes and guides to help businesses develop a brand protection strategy.
This is a significant expansion of Meta's IP monitoring tools, which provide brand protection for brands targeted by questionable Facebook and Instagram resellers selling counterfeit products. Counterfeits undermine brand reputation, and Facebook, through its feed ads and Marketplace promotions, is a known target for many of these people.
If you are selling fake, counterfeit products on Instagram or Facebook, we highly recommend that you rethink your approach to publishing content by minimizing the use of branded hashtags, brand logo images, etc.
