Instagram began testing new reactions to stories. Now they do not come in messages but are shown below, where you can immediately reply to them.
We are used to the fact that our emoji reactions to stories fly to Direct. All this time, the mechanics of "emotions" were simple - you select the desired emoji in the frame, and it is sent straight to your private messages.
This is not always convenient - the correspondence is clogged with unnecessary dialogues.
And so Instagram solved the problem more gracefully. Now quick reactions will remain on the story that other users have reacted to, and only the owner will see them.
