Add music to your Instagram profile

Instagram Integrates Music into Profiles – Welcome to the Nostalgic Renaissance!

What a grand return!
Instagram has decided that sharing life’s moments and beautiful photos simply isn’t enough – now you can add your very own soundtrack to your profile. Yes, you heard that right! Just like in the golden days of MySpace back in 2007, everyone can now showcase their musical preferences on IG.

After all, music is what makes us unique, isn’t it? Every song you choose is like a reflection of your inner self, even if we all know that some of our playlists might feature a cheeky ‘Masha and the Bear’!

Of course, Instagram won’t force your chosen song to play automatically when someone visits your page (thank goodness – no more unexpected sonic surprises!), but now you can select current tracks to share with the world.

As Instagram puts it: “We’re pleased to announce that you can now add a song to your profile, allowing you to express yourself through music. Your chosen track will remain until you decide to update the soundtrack of your life.” Sounds like a perfect excuse for yet another change of aesthetic, doesn’t it?

This isn’t entirely new for Instagram; they began experimenting with musical profiles back in 2022. Facebook tried something similar as well, but it seems the audience was rather indifferent. Meanwhile, Instagram is primarily targeting a younger crowd – hurrah for the chance to showcase your culinary tastes alongside a heartfelt ballad!

So, why now? It seems Instagram is keen to solidify its position in the music game, especially with the potential exit of TikTok from the US market. TikTok has become a cultural phenomenon, serving as the go-to platform for many artists to promote their work. If TikTok does ultimately vanish, Instagram is determined to raise the bar and become your musical haven.

Let’s not forget that Instagram has already rolled out ‘Add Your Music’ stickers, enabling users to respond to stories with tracks, and has integrated music into notes and lyrics in Reels. Essentially, Instagram is trying to capture all the musical magic from TikTok and bring it to its own platform.

So, don’t hesitate to refresh your profile and select a song that best reflects your mood. But remember, let’s not judge people by their musical tastes; we all have those ‘guilty pleasure’ songs we listen to in secret!
