Algorithm is the king of all social networks. Instagram came to it in 2016. That's when we stopped seeing the posts in our feed in chronological order and began to receive only the content we were interested in.
But recently, the media trumpeted that posts would soon be shown to users again based on the date. Is it true? Let's look into it.
First, let's listen to what Instagram head Adam Mosseri has to say. In a stories on his personal account, he told us that the algorithm will not go away. Now the developers are testing two options for controlling the feed:
In the first, users will be able to select their favorite accounts. Their content will be displayed at the top of the feed in chronological order;
In the second - they will be able to limit the feed to their subscriptions, which will be shown depending on the date of publication.
Mosseri promised to give more information in early 2022. Hopefully it will become clearer in January, because so far it seems like the second option is the usual chronological feed. But here it's worth remembering the structure of the feed in TikTok - users have a choice: either watch recommendations or content from those to whom they are subscribed. Maybe Instagram is going to implement something similar.
However, we can guess endlessly. But one thing is clear - the timeline as it was at the dawn of social networks, we certainly will not return, because: a) it is not interesting b) unprofitable for Instagram
Why isn't it profitable? The algorithm analyzes our desires and gives us the content that will draw us in and make us swipe and swipe and swipe the feed. And behind every swipe could be an ad.
