"My post on Instagram that I shared 2 years ago got deleted."
We often have users reach out to us with similar issues on Instagram. Why would Instagram decide to remove a post that was previously considered completely fine, whether it's been a month, six months, or even a few years?
There are two possibilities:
1. Malicious mass reporting by detractors purposely flagging potentially rule-breaking Instagram posts. Often, posts that push the boundaries can remain untouched until they start receiving complaints, prompting Instagram to take action and potentially delete them.
2. Instagram algorithms are constantly improving, conducting more thorough content analyses. What may have gone unnoticed years ago could now be detected following a reevaluation. Computer vision, text analysis, and automated content checks are rapidly advancing, making such cases unsurprising.
What to do?
Never assume you won't be noticed. Carefully inspect what you post for potential violations.
It's important to note that sharing others' content without permission, even if it doesn't break any rules, is prohibited. Only with official consent from the individual or company can you do so. However, there have been instances where even with proper permission, posts were removed and accounts were blocked simply due to administrative oversight.
If your post gets deleted, try to dispute it.
Deleted content typically leads to a "shadowban" and potentially account suspension, making this situation extremely unpleasant for you and your Instagram account.
